Treasure Island Today

Treasure Island is a place with a rich history and several landmarks (which you can read about here). It's undergoing a redevelopment that includes more housing, transportation, activities, and green spaces. We’ve rounded up some of the biggest changes coming to Treasure Island.

How to Get to Treasure Island

Catching a ride on the ferry is the most scenic way to get to Treasure Island. It’s only a 10 minute trip from the SF Ferry Building and it heads out every thirty minutes. It’s about $5 which makes it only a bit more expensive than a bus ride, except you get to traverse by sea. Driving from the Ferry Building to Treasure Island only takes 14 minutes. You could also get there with a 20 minute walk or bike ride.

Redevelopment Plan

Treasure Island is being transformed from a naval base to a community with homes and shops. The multi-billion dollar investment is expected to establish 8,000 homes, open spaces, waterfront trails, and shopping centers. The transformation envisions cultural venues, restaurants, and shops connected by bicyclable paths and bus stops.
