Golden Gate Park is a one-stop shop for pretty much any outdoor activity you can think of —- including archery, boating, hiking, bike riding, and rollerskating. The entire park is packed with wildlife, greenery, and stunning views of waterfalls, a windmill, flower fields, and more. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite things to do at Golden Gate Park.
1. de Young Museum

The de Young museum is one of the largest art museums in the United States. Exhibits range from the 17th century through today and feature textile arts, African art, arts of the Americas, and contemporary art. Don’t miss out on the Paul McCartney and Issac Julian exhibits. On June 26, Off the Grid is hosting a feast at Late Night at De Young! Stop by for a bite as an intermission to your museum visit.
2. California Academy of Sciences

This science museum has an aquarium, planetarium, and rainforest dome. Many of the exhibits are based on biology and natural science, making it an essential visit for nature lovers. The rainforest dome is a slice of the amazon with birds and butterflies roaming free in the exhibit. There are also reptiles and insects in caged displays. Don’t miss the albino alligator in the aquarium!
3. Botanical Garden

This large collection of gardens features native plants from across the globe. It’s a great place for a stroll or to sit down for a break. Explore 55 acres and discover over 8,000 kinds across the moon viewing garden, fountain plaza, garden of fragrance, succulent garden, and great meadow.
4. Boathouse

At Stow Lake, you can rent a rowboat or paddle boat and explore the mini-island. Make sure to see the bridge and golden gate pavilion. This is the ideal spot for birdwatching thanks to the quiet, sirene pockets of nature located around the lake. If you prefer not to head onto the water, a walk around the area is a great way to get some steps in.
5. Conservatory of Flowers

A beautiful greenhouse on a plush hill with plenty of space for a picnic. It’s a multi-room conservatory filled with rare and exotic plants including aquatic and air plants. This is a great spot for photos and a leisurely stroll sure to entertain family members of all ages.
6. 6th Avenue Skate Park

Along the JFK Promenade near 6th Avenue and Fulton, there’s a large psychedelic ground mural where the community comes together to roller skate. You’ll need to bring your own skates during the week. Both inline and roller skates are available for rent on Saturdays and Sundays.
7. Windmill + Tulip Garden

Perhaps one of the most beautiful views in the city. This spot is also an excellent photo op. Plan your visit here in the spring to see the tulips in full bloom. Don’t forget to bring a camera.
8. Archery Range

If you’ve ever wanted to shoot an arrow, there’s a little known archery range on the far west side of the park (near the windmill). The space is free to use, but you’ll need to bring your own gear. There’s also a golf course nearby.
9. Bandshell Concerts

Catch free live musical performances at this stunning outdoor venue. You can grab a seat near the stage or post up with a picnic blanket near the fountains. Check out the bandshell website to see upcoming performances.
10. Bison Paddock

You don’t need to take a trip to the zoo to see a bison in SF. This meadow on the park’s west end has been around since before the SF Zoo. The space used to be home to bears, deer, sheep, and elk.
