If you’re looking to take a day trip from San Francisco, you have plenty of options. We’re only a short drive from wineries, beaches, and seafood. Here’s a list of our favorite places to travel when we’re looking for good food and even better vibes.
1. Monterey
2 hour drive from Ferry Building
The city’s most popular attraction is the Monterey Bay Aquarium nestled at the end of Cannery Row. You can grab a scoop of ice cream from nearby Ghiradelli or grab seafood at any of the spots along the strip. We recommend renting a bike and heading over to Old Fisherman’s Wharf where you can hop on a boat to go whale watching.
2. Santa Cruz

1.5 hour drive from Ferry Building
The boardwalk is a popular stop for families looking for arcades, mini golf, carnival games, and rides; but, you’ll need to head to a quieter beach to really take in the beauty of Santa Cruz. Fuel up with caffeine from popular cafes like Cat & Cloud or Verve before walking along the coast.
3. Half Moon Bay
46 minute drive from Ferry Building
Spend the day beach hopping, kayaking, and chowing down on seafood. Half Moon Bay is best known for their seafood, but you shouldn’t sleep on Dad’s Luncheonette for burgers, Monsoon for Himalayan Cuisine, and The Barn for hot dogs.
4. Guerneville

1.5 hour drive from Ferry Building
Right next to the Russian River, this former logging town is a perfect getaway. Start your day with a doughnut from Pat’s International or a breakfast burrito from Guerneville Taco Truck. Spend a day hiking through the forest and end the night with drinks from El Barrio and burgers from Road Trip.
5. Napa
1 hour 15 minute drive from Ferry Building
Napa is for those looking for a luxurious retreat with wine trains, hot air balloon rides, contemporary art museums, and vintage shops. Napa also has a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant called Kenzo which is perfect for a splurge-worthy feast.
6. Healdsburg
1 hour 20 minute drive from Ferry Building
Healdsburg is the spot for anyone looking to go wine tasting. You can even take a guided wine walk or bike ride. One of the most popular spots for a bite in the area is Journeyman Meat Co. known for their house-made salami and wood-fired pizza.
7. Anderson Valley
2 hour 30 minute drive from Ferry Building
Anderson Valley is home to Hendy Woods State Park which is filled with redwoods, vineyards, and farms. You can book a tour at Penny Royal Farm that includes cheese and wine tasting. If you’re looking to celebrate an event with fine dining, stop by Ledford House for oceanfront views, wine, and live jazz.
8. Stinson Beach
50 minute drive from Ferry Building
If your plan is to spend a day in the water, Stinson Beach is the ideal choice. You can also surf, sunbathe, or go hiking. The must try food spots here include freshly baked loaves from Brickmaiden Breads and any of the seafood dishes from Parkside Cafe. For lunch, stop by Pelican Inn for lunch.
9. Tomales Bay
1 hour 20 minute drive from Ferry Building
Spend the day hiking at Tomales Bay State Park exploring its beaches and cliffsides. Once you’ve built up an appetite, head to Hog Island Oyster Company to feast on oysters, clams, and mussels. Burn off the calories by paddling a kayak
