The Bay Area is home to some of the best vegetable-based restaurants in the country. We’re lucky to have roasted broccoli tacos, cashew queso, and paneer curry as dining options. We love that vegetarian + vegan cuisine has been growing with unique fermentations and fusion creations. Here’s our list of our favorite veggie-centric restaurants in the bay!
Our Favorite Vegetarian + Vegan Restaurants Across the Bay Area

Tacos Oscar (Oakland) specializes in plant-based tacos that are a play on traditional Mexican cuisine. The mushroom mole taco tossed a blend of crispy mushrooms into a savory mole along with some toasted sesame seeds and pickled onion. The charred broccoli taco is fresh and nutty thanks to a peanut-arbol salsa. The menu here is always rotating, so you’ll always find fun new creations like the little gem tostada topped with lettuce, mustard greens, jalapeño vinaigrette, eggplant puree, and queso fresco.

Wildseed (San Francisco) has a menu built around seasonal vegan cuisine. You can get an Impossible burger, but more impressively, there’s an option for a burger made with ground mushrooms and spinach. For dessert, try the Meyer lemon “cheese”-cake for a tangy, creamy treat.

Cha-Ya (Multiple locations) is a vegan Japanese restaurant with noodles, sushi, and salads. You’ll also find bowls of soup made with seaweed dashi and topped with deep-fried tofu. The sushi swaps fish for pickled or fried vegetables.

Señor Sisig (Multiple locations — including OTG events!) makes a vegan version of nearly every dish on the menu, so there’s no compromise. The “vegano” menu includes their signature sisig tacos, burritos, nachos, fries, and salads using 100% plant-based ingredients.

Foxtale Fermentation (San Jose) is a plant-based brewery dishing out one-of-a-kind dishes like hibiscus mole, fermented sunflower spread, and a creamy cashew queso. Their dishes and drinks are seasonal, so you’ll always find something exciting to try.

Egglicious India (San Jose) serves vegetarian Indian cuisine spanning chaat, curries, and stir-fried noodles. A lot of the menu revolves around different egg preparations — boiled, fried, and steamed. The eggs make an appearance cooked down in sauce, tossed in biryani, or plopped on top of a bowl of noodles. We recommend the pani puri filled, semolina puffs filled with chutney and herb-infused water.

Vegan Mob (San Bruno + Food truck) offers plant-based barbecue and soulfood. We love their “shrimp” po’ boys and fully-loaded mob fries. Don’t sleep on their sides — the smackaroni, candied yams, and cranberry coleslaw pair well with the barbecue plates.
